INFLAMMATION

SkinPen’s microneedles penetrate the skin’s surface, triggering a natural immune response to disinfect, remove debris, increase blood flow, and activate the creation of new tissue.

PROLIFERATION

The micro-channels or tiny holes created by SkinPen are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.

HOW DOES SKINPEN WORK?

SkinPen creates hundreds to thousands of 'micro' skin punctures per second to stimulate the skin's natural wound healing process - inflammation, proliferation and remodelling to prompt tissue remodelling without causing scar tissue formation. Most patients can return to normal activities within 24 hours.

WILL SKINPEN WORK FOR ME?

SkinPen has been clinically proven to be effective for women and men with all Fitzpatrick skin types 1-6.

IS THE TREATMENT SAFE?

Yes, Skinpen's patented and single-use sterile needle cartridge is built with safety in mind. SkinPen is also surrounded by a custom-designed BioSheath that acts as a barrier to prevent cross contamination between procedures. That's part of the reason SkinPen by Crown Aesthetics is the world's first FDA-cleared microneedling device.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE TREATMENT?

A layer of Skinfuse Lift HG is applied to the treatment area to protect the skin against abrasion and friction of the SkinPen device during treatment. Your Skin Practitioner will select a depth on the microneedle cartridge to begin treatment. As the SkinPen device glides over the skin micro-channels are created on the skins surface. It is suggested to apply a generous layer of Skinfuse Lift HG post treatment.

DOES THE TREATMENT HURT?

The treatment may cause some minor discomfort during the treatment. A topical numbing agent is used during treatment to further minimise discomfort.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Immediately after treatment, you will be red and may feel that the treated skin is tight. The inflammatory response the SkinPen sets in motion feels like a sunburn, but the process in the skin is different. The next day, you may still be pink and feel a bit irritated. Within the first 72 hours post-treatment, you should avoid sweaty exercise and sun exposure.

DO I NEED TO USE THE PRODUCTS THAT COME WITH THE TREATMENT?

Yes, you will get the best results when you follow the home-care instructions. They have been formulated to help in the wound healing process and protect your skin from further damage following treatment.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Following the treatment, you may see immediate smoothing in the first week. You will continue to see improvement up to 3 to 6 months after your treatment as collagen continues to remodel. The best results are seen when 3 treatments are performed every 4 weeks, however some people will benefit by having more than 3 treatments.

WHO SHOULD NOT USE SKINPEN?

SkinPen should not be used on patients who have active skin cancer in the treatment area(s):

  • Open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area(s).

  • An allergy to stainless steel or anaesthetics.

  • A hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction.

  • Are pregnant or nursing.

  • Currently taking drugs with the ingredient isotretinoin (such as Accutane).
